Meet Cholula

Ari Edgmon's journey with her heart horse, Cholula, is a testament to resilience and finding joy in unexpected places. Based in Weatherford, TX, Ari and Cholula's story is one of enduring partnership through highs and lows.

Ari has owned Cholula for six years. Initially, Cholula was set to be Ari's next NRHA reining horse. However, Cholula faced numerous soundness issues that sidelined her promising show career.

Ari's search for the perfect horse had been fraught with challenges. After four years of heartbreak with previous horses—ranging from lameness to colic—Ari finally found Cholula in her fifth year of searching. It was love at first sight, and Cholula's barn name, inspired by the hot sauce, sealed the deal for Ari, a lover of all things spicy.

Cholula was everything Ari had hoped for—talented, young, and affordable. Their first show together was a triumph, with Cholula scoring a 145.5 and winning all levels of the non-pro derby. But just as they were gearing up for more success in 2020, Cholula sustained a severe injury, tearing her meniscus and ending her reining career.

By 2021, Cholula was sound enough for light trail riding and even became a mother. In 2022, Cholula's second foal, a sorrel filly by Magnum Chic Dream, was born, renewing Ari’s hopes for the future.

In 2023, Ari tentatively began working Cholula again. To her surprise, Cholula’s stifle had healed remarkably well. Transitioning to ranch horse events, Cholula and Ari have since won multiple championships and reserve championships in their new discipline.

Ari and Cholula are now thriving in their ranch horse era, embodying resilience and the spirit of second chances. Their story is a powerful reminder that even when plans fall apart, new paths can lead to unexpected and beautiful destinations
